springbank hill house

Calgary, Alberta, Canada | Concept

Our clients purchased a piece of semi-rural property in Calgary with the intent of maintaining as much natural landscape as possible while accommodating enough area for a growing family. Our approach was to maximize the livable area while acknowledging the natural environment by providing connection points and distinct views from within the home. The main spine of vertical circulation is a wayfinding element within the plan and volume of the home. This volume connects and facilitates the flow of people through most all the spaces in the home via open to below voids, a stair well and a vaulted ceiling.

The conceptual approach of the home was created by challenging the dogmatic notion of the typical suburban form by combining the garage and living volumes into one simplified mass.
