BOLD Workshop Architecture is a progressive firm based in Calgary, Alberta. Founded in 2019, this creativity-driven studio specializes in architecture and design, while also exploring self-development projects and unconventional modes of practice.

We take a lighthearted approach and are forever curious, always exploring unconventional solutions to familiar architectural challenges.  BOLD puts this ethos into action by collaborating with dedicated clients, and self-developing or securing grants for our most innovative work. These projects and initiatives, which make a meaningful impact on communities while pushing the boundaries of design, exemplify our dedication to purpose-driven architecture.

Our projects and independent studies generate valuable insights that contribute to discussions about architecture’s role in shaping communities. We share our work and ideas at academic institutions, on panels, at conferences and public forums. With a dedication to design education, advocacy, and collaboration, we continually strive for excellence in serving our clients, articulating the value of design, and fostering authentic connections to both place and people.

  • Kayla has 12 years of experience, working across a range of project types, including custom single-family homes, multifamily residences, award-winning restaurant interiors, and major light rail transit (LRT) infrastructure. Her approach to every project is rooted in passion and precision, recognizing and leveraging its distinct potential.

After developing her own single-family home and laneway in Calgary’s inner city, Kayla fully embraced the dual role of architect and self-developer. This unique position allows her to use personal projects as experimental spaces, testing innovative ideas, particularly within the realm of market-driven affordable housing. Her work is driven by a passion for creating authentic, inclusive environments that foster connection. As an advocate for equality in architecture, Kayla actively champions women and underrepresented groups in the city-building professions. She co-founded and serves as vice-chair of the Calgary chapter of Building Equality in Architecture (BEA Calgary) and is a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary’s School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape (SAPL). She has been appointed to the City of Calgary’s 2025 Council Advisory Committee on Housing. Kayla is a volunteer and member of the Calgary Inner City Builders Association (CICBA) and housing advocate with More Neighbours Calgary

An experienced architect with expertise in commercial, residential, hospitality, and cultural projects, Kayla holds a Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) Honours from the University of Sydney. Her practice thrives on collaboration, partnering with clients who share her vision of purpose-driven design.
